Love stayed Quiet

Love woke in the middle of the night to find Pain staring at the moon.

They spoke –

their conversation whispered into

the deep quiet.

Pain asked if she could live without him.

Love did not have an answer.

So they stayed,

Promising each other they would meet once more.

But Love found another.

And Pain stayed awake

for all of eternity.

Melting Rain

It’s on the days when
the words,
of every alphabet

cannot be strung together

from my cracked,
and bruised heart.

One look
in silence,
shared in memory,
as you walked by in the rain-

brown eyes
melting me away.

New Silence

I felt the spark —
I was sure of it,
but it struck the deep waters
of my soul,
still sparking
as I drowned
in the magic of you.

Burnt-coffee eyes,
and a soul
made of sky —

I could not write
our ending;
you would have read it
even in silence,
with your discerning eyes.

Too Sensitive for Superman

No more cryptic words-
I’m too sensitive for that.

Mr. M, your smile was worth a thousand unspoken thoughts;
it was radiant – pure sunshine.

Superman himself
couldn’t shine that bright.
I wish you’d seen my light
the way I saw yours.

Because I was charismatic
and blushing-
in ways I never am.

But your smile,
your banter –
they fogged over
every clever, witty
comeback I had saved.

Magic Fog

A little nervous calm,
settled—
like thick fog
as you walked into the room.

The wings
of every butterfly
beat against
my ribs,

tickling every
cell within my skin,
cracking
my voice
to a barely
audible decibel.

I felt the magic
settle—then dissipate,
the kind that only
follows you.
